Me Tristan Desjardins (LL.B., LL.M. (Hon.)) holds a degree in law of the University of Montreal and a
master with thesis in law of the Laval University. During his university studies, the aptitudes for drafting
and analysis of Me Desjardins were the object of several academic distinctions related to the criminal and
penal law, in particular the award Jacques Fortin given to the most commendable student in matters of penal
procedure. More recently, his master's thesis on the judicial consequences of the community standards of the
Canadian contemporary society was the object of a triple mention of excellence from the members of the
evaluation committee, which earned him an inscription on the board of honours of the Faculty of higher
education of Laval University. This document also enabled him to receive the prize for best master's
dissertation from the Law teachers association of Quebec
Me Desjardins began his professional career by clerking at the Quebec Court of Appeal for the honourable
Michel Proulx. He joined thereafter the cabinet Downs Lepage as a lawyer. Member of the Barreau du Québec,
of the Association du Barreau canadien and of the Association des avocats de la défense de Montréal, Me
Desjardins has since practiced before all judicial instances, including the Supreme Court of Canada. His
career as a defence lawyer brings him to exert criminal and penal law not only in Montreal but also in many
Quebec districts such as St-Jérôme, Québec, Joliette, Laval, Mont-Laurier, Granby, Sorel and Sherbrooke.
The practice of Me Desjardins leans towards the representation of clients before the courts of appeal.
Combined with his capacity of analysis, his skills as a litigant also leads him to act very efficiently
in first instance, in particular before the Court of Quebec. As a criminal jurist, his field of practice
extends to all infringements planned with the Criminal Code and the Code of Penal Procedure, in particular
the infringements relating to assault and battery, sexual assault, obstruction of justice, fraud, theft,
possession and trafficking of drugs and impaired driving.
Theorist and lecturer, Me Desjardins is also the author of a work recently published at Lexis Nexis
Butterworths and entitled Les infractions d'ordre moral en droit criminel canadien. He is presently writing
a treaty bearing on the appeal in criminal law for which publication is scheduled for January 2008.
